TV Tip for Tonight

For those not leaving the house tonight (or perhaps those coming home from the pub early!)

There is a musical highlight not to be missed...

Tonight on BBC2 (UK) at 11.35pm; Later: With Jools Holland has a great lineup of artists.

In a show set list which includes eclectic dance/electronic geek Mylo and little known in the UK (as yet) "alt-folk-looping" singer songwriter Joseph Arthur, Arctic Monkeys make their TV debut at a time with their debut single unsuprisingly sitting at number one in the UK Chart. The show also includes eager to impress, after a much anticipated but luke-warmly received second album; Ms.Dynamite (ee-hee?). This is really one not to miss (or at least to not forget to tape!).

Lyric of the day...

Arctic Monkeys
its goes something like this...

'Well now then mardy bum
I see your frown
and its like looking down
the barrel of a gun...and it goes off'

That is all.

More Design..

I thought I would upload these ideas that I had for some photography/design work I was undertaking. I took some lyrics (Idlewild, and Hope of the States) and just played around really. Its just about putting imagery to some words, but without being too literate about it. The photographs are purposely grainy and blurry. The black scribble is just something I stole from the Deftones which I thought looked good. Nowt wrong with that! My point of this post is nothing! Its music related, with with a visual element!

Ourgate Studios

Another lazy post...

Here is a poster I designed for Ourgate Studios, a recording studio in Eastleigh, Hampshire.

Their website is www.ourgatestudios.co.uk. They have all the latest equipment and qualified studio engineers, so check them out if you're thinking about recording a demo soon.

And heres the poster I designed for Ourgates Studios sister company, Ourgate Productions.

This is a video production company, specialising in training and marketing videos, though they can also create professional quality music videos. errrm although they don't have a website so visit www.ourgaterecords.co.uk instead.

Elbow Leaders of the Free World

Ok ok so this album was released a month ago. But the trouble is I loved it from day one, and felt unable to give my full unbiased opinion on the record, hence my belated review. So rather than review the album I thought I would just post some of the genius lyrics penned by the underrated Guy Garvey.

'The streets are full of Goths and Greeks
I haven’t seen my mum for weeks but
Coming home I feel like I
Designed these buildings I walk by'

This verse is from 'Station Approach,' the album opener. Garvey is describing the reaction and feeling he gets when returning home to Manchester after a tour. GENIUS!

'I’m sick of working for a living
I’m just ticking off the days till I die'

Taken from 'Leaders of the Free World.' Hasn't he just summed up the thoughts of every single worker in the world? Yes? GENIUS!

'Yet he’d look ideal ‘neath the wheels of a car
Oh Mexican standoff I wish I was hard'

Uh oh! Guy Garvey is jealous over his missus ex! And he's admitting that he's a bit of a wimp! That takes a strong man in my opinion. GENIUS!

'A call girl with yesterday eyes
Was our witness and priest
Stockport supporters club kindly provided a choir'

Taken from the frankly gorgeous song 'Great Expectations,' Garvey gets married on the Number 35 Bus! Err except the bride doesn't know it yet! Stalker? No. Nutter? No. GENIUS? yes.

'I leaned on you today
I regularly hurt but never say
You patched me up and sent me on my way
I leaned on you today'

s s sob ssniiffff *wiping eyes*. GENIUS!

Something a little different...

Due to severe writers block (and a large amount of laziness) there have been no new posts on shearpassion for some time. So I've decided to post something...

.. ok so its not a review or preview or whatever, but it's a piece of design / illustration work I created a few months ago. The general idea was to show a passion for music in a less obvious way... I think it kinda explains itself. It's supposed to be medical /scientific / futuristic portraying the fact that I rely on music like water or oxygen. Its another element. Christ what am I talking about...?
